Between July 24th and August 1st, 2017, the Al Andalus Foundation for Education organized another Summer Camp. The camp was for Muslim children between 8 and 13 years of age and had been attended by boys, most of which resided in Spain, but some participants also came from other countries: from Turkey, England, Denmark and from Germany.
Part of the camp’s programme were two cultural visits which connected us to the Muslim past of this land: First we visited the Mosque of Cordoba and then we saw the Carmen del Aljibe del Rey in Granada. There visitors learn about the historic irrigation system of the time of Al Andalus and of the Albaicin quarter of Granada in particular.
We have also made trips to Rio Verde (a spectacular mountain gorge 87 km South of Granada), where the boys enjoyed jumping into the fresh water pools from the surrounding rocks. We also went to Cubillas Reservoir, where we had lots of fun using kayaks. We also went to one of the beautiful beaches of the famous Cabo de Gata Natural Park, near Almería on the South Coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
In the facilities where we stayed, we organized different leisure activities and sports competitions (swimming, table tennis, football, wrestling and archery).
All our activities took place within the parameters of our Din, taking care at all times about the behaviour of the participants, highlighting the values to which Islam calls: Generosity, Respect, Gratitude, Service and Noble Behaviour.
This Summer Camp meant ten days full of valuable experiences for all participants, full of emotions and everyday learning, which we will repeat next summer, inshaAllah.
