WINTER CAMP 2018

From 27th to the 30th of December 2018 we held a small camp for children between the ages of 8 and 13. On this occasion the place chosen for it has been the camping site Pueblo Blanco, in the town of Olvera, north of the Sierra de Grazalema, in the province of Cadiz.

The camp was attended by a total of twenty-three participants. During these four days we have enjoyed a program full of leisure activities and outdoor team games. On Friday morning we did climbing, archery and zip-line. Another day we completed the hiking route to the town of Olvera and visited its castle from the Nasrid epoch [1230 – 1492] that belonged to the kingdom of Granada. Despite the fact that at this time of the year it is cold, and due to the short days and early dusk, the children enjoyed playing outside in the darkness of the night, warmly dressed and equipped with flashlights.

All these moments of outdoor activities have been mixed with moments of tranquillity and concentration provoked when praying or listening to a story before going to bed.

We have taken advantage of this time of the year, the period of the Christmas holidays, to speak to the children about the birth of the prophet Isa and his life. We also deal with the pagan origin of this winter celebration and its adaptation to Christianity in an attempt to make it coincide with the birth of the prophet Isa.

These have been four wonderful days in which, in addition to enjoying nature and the company of other Muslim children, we have tried to transmit the values and model of conduct proper to Muslims, emphasizing good behaviour at the table and good companionship.
